Wharf Barrel Shed

Wharf Barrel Shed

Cutting Road Goolwa Wharf, Goolwa SA 5214

Visit the Wharf Barrel Shed, Goolwa’s most popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike.

Situated in the heritage listed Wharf Shed on the early 1900’s Goolwa Wharf you are instantly immersed into the early history of the Port of Goolwa and its significance in the servicing and trade for inland Australia. With the 1908 PS Oscar W paddle steamer operating from the front door and Australia’s first steam train (Steam Ranger) still operating at the rear of the shed, you are surrounded by early Australiana. This is one of only two places in the world where you can transfer from a steam driven train to a paddle steamer, the other being Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.

The Wharf Barrel Shed occupies the original warehouse where transported goods were stored. It retains the character and charm of that by-gone era, and captures the splendour of our mightiest river, the River Murray which is literally on the door step. Sit and relax for a while, watching wooden boats manoeuvring along the river, yachts racing within reaching distance, glamorous pelicans drifting by and perhaps a seal or two feeding as you enjoy the best of our local food, wine, beer and music.

The Wharf Barrel Shed captures memories that you will share forever.

Located on the Goolwa Wharf right next to the Oscar W paddle steamer, visit our Cellar Door, Wine Bar, Café and Entertainment Venue,  where you can sample the full range of 90 Mile Wines, or better still, stay a while and enjoy a glass or two over a platter of the freshest local produce from our clean, green region. We also promote and sell wines from other small, local, independent wineries and craft beers from across the Fleurieu Peninsula. Freshly ground coffee too.

Our friendly staff provide good, old fashion customer service to ensure you get the most from your stay. This is one place in Goolwa you will want to return to.

Open every day from mid day, closing 6pm Sun – Thurs and 9pm Fri – Sat
