The Corio Hotel located in Railway Terrace Goolwa, has been an integral feature of the landscape of Goolwa since its construction in 1858.
Named after the paddle steamer “SS Corio”, which sank in 1857 on the Murray River, the National Trust listed hotel has traded continuously, an interesting feature of the hotel is the Great Yankee Doodle Tobacco ceiling posters. The posters are reproductions of a painting call The Spirit of 76 by Archibald M Willard. The original painting, titled Yankee Doodle, was a humorous depiction of the Fourth of July celebrations, but was changed from humorous to patriotic for the Centennial Exposition of 1876 in Philadelphia USA. Coloured reproductions, like the ones on the ceiling of the Corio, were sold prior to the centennial under their new title “The Spirit of 76.

The Bistro which is very family friendly and is staffed by an enthusiastic team of chefs and staff who will ensure your meal here will be a pleasant one for either lunch or dinner. The chefs ensure restaurant quality and our specials and unique flavourings add to this epicurean experience that is the Corio Hotel. Our extensive wine list provides a wine for any occasion or meal.

The front bar of the Corio Hotel, is a great place to stop on the way home after work, and indulge in a game of pool or a flutter on the pokie machines. Facilities also include, Pool tables, Kayo sports, Pokies, ATM, TAB and friendly staff. Simple and traditional front bar meals are available and we strive to provide value for money.

A varied range of spirits, beers and local wines ensures that the consumer has a large selection and well-priced items to choose from in the conveniently positioned Sip’n’Save “Drive Thru” bottle shop provision located to the side of the majestic hotel.
